General Information
About the symposium

After Vienna (2001), Salvador de Bahia (2004), Saint-Etienne (2006) and Moscow (2009) INCOM 2012 is hosted in Bucharest by the CIMR Centre of the University Politehnica.
The 14th edition of IFAC's triennal symposium INCOM aims at bringing together researchers from academia and industry
all around the world, to present their most recent scientific results and developments in the fields of Industrial Engineering, Automatic
Control, Computer Science and Information Technology applied to Manufacturing Systems.
INCOM is worldwide recognized as one of the leading IFAC conferences promoting research in the fields of Industrial Engineering, Automatic Control, Computer Science & Engineering and Information Technology applied to Manufacturing Systems. The INCOM symposia attract a large number of outstanding scientists worldwide, offering a
forum to discuss and promote the most recent scientific results and implementing solutions through interdisciplinary knowledge transfer.
The theme of the INCOM'12 Symposium is "Advanced Control for Smarter Manufacturing", bringing into discussion the state-of-the-art and progress for sustainable manufacturing. From bio-inspiration to virtual enterprise management, new theories will be presented which improve manufacturing engineering practices.
In the tradition of the INCOM symposia there will be included applications of optimization methods and automation, information and communication technologies for the control of manufacturing plants and supply chains integrated within the e-enterprise. The entire product, process and resource life cycles are covered by the scientific topics from design and implementing, through operating and maintenance, to supply, distribution and service.

Brief presentation of the University Politehnica of Bucharest
The University Politehnica of Bucharest is the largest technical university in Romania. Its traditions are connected to the founding of the first higher technical school in 1818 by Gheorghe Lazăr.
The tradition of this institution, gained in more than 190 years through the efforts of the most important nation's schoolmasters, as well as of students' generations, is not the only convincing reason. Today, the University Politehnica of Bucharest is undergoing a continuous modernization process, being involved in a permanent dialogue with important universities in Europe and all over the world.
The heritage left by our predecessors determine the present academic community to get involved in many scientific research programs and projects that confer it not only appreciation and professional reputation, but also the quality of its teaching steps and the premise of its participation in realizing an information society within the higher education European space through knowledge creation.
At present the University Politehnica of Bucharest is structured in 13 faculties with over 100 departments covering all engineering fields, from Computer Science and Automation to Applied Chemistry and Materials Science. The total number of students is 27000 on the three levels of higher education programs: License, Master and Doctoral Studies.Brief presentation of the Automation and Industrial Informatics Department - AII
The AII Department, founded in 1967, is part of the Faculty of Automatic Control and Computer Science (ACS) within the University Politehnica of Bucharest. With more than 3500 students, ACS offers license, master and doctoral programs in the Control Systems, Industrial Automation, Applied Informatics, Computer Science & Engineering, and Information Technology domains.
The Department of Automation and Industrial Informatics is specialized in higher education and excellence research in the fields of Industrial Automation, Applied Informatics, Intelligent Manufacturing Control, Enterprise Resource Planning and Management, and Robotics.
The research projects of the Automation and Industrial Informatics department cover the creation, design and implementing of advanced methods and architectures for modelling, analysis, optimization and construction of complex discrete-event dynamic systems, including manufacturing processes and services. There are five main research laboratories in the department: Information Management and Systematic Software Development; Fault Tolerant Communication and LAN; Data Fusion, Process Diagnosis and Maintenance; Distributed and Agile Manufacturing Control; Advanced Robot Control Systems. The Automation and Industrial Informatics Department has an academic staff of 46 professors and 24 PhD. students. During the past years there were approached research projects with the topics: applied AI and multi-agent systems for production and services, semi-heterarhical control of holonic manufacturing systems, SOA for enterprise management and control, RFID and wireless sensor and actuator networks for water and environment monitoring, cognitive robotics, content management and business intelligence, image processing for medical and quality control applications, fractal techniques in complexity science.Brief presentation of the Centre of Research in Computer Integrated Manufacturing & Robotics - CIMR
The CIMR Centre was founded in 1993, as an academic interdisciplinary research entity – part of the Automatic Control and Computer Science Faculty in the University Politehnica of Bucharest, having full strategic and scientific autonomy, strongly connected to industry, with the primary mission of carrying out research in important areas for the Romanian economy: AI and robotics in manufacturing and services; cognitive robotics; environment modelling and feature-based description through 2D and 3D image processing and laser scanning; fractal techniques in medical image processing and material quality control; holonic manufacturing control systems; multi-agent systems in discrete, repetitive process control; SOA for enterprise management and control.
The main goal of the CIMR Centre is to promote the science base in product-driven automation, ICT, robotics, intelligent manufacturing systems, and SOA for Enterprise. The CIMR Centre is recognized as Excellence Centre by the Romanian Ministry of Education, Research and Innovation and the National Council of Scientific Research in Higher Education since 2002, and certified as autonomous research institution by the National Authority of Scientific Research since 2008.
The main research projects of CIMR in the last years were in the areas: Intelligent Information Technology in Manufacturing; Cognitive and collaborative technologies in robotics; Intelligent embedded systems and wireless sensor & actuator networks for production planning, scheduling, control and monitoring; High-speed, real time image processing and 3D in line surface reconstruction; SOA for agile enterprise management and control based on multi-agent systems; Product-driven holonic manufacturing systems with semi-heterarchical control topology; High Performance Computing for complex modelling, fractal techniques and interdisciplinary applications.
Global results in R&D and education: 46 private and public funded research projects and grants at national level; 6 international research grants; cooperation conventions with more than 30 universities from EU and USA; more than 160 student and faculty exchanges with EU universities; 12 international conferences, symposia, workshops and summer schools organised; publications: 62 monographs, 1100 scientific papers, 16 patents.
